Jack Brain – “Designing Chaos”

Jack Brain is Giacomo Casile. The Calabrian musician in question is the only individual behind everything concerning the Jack Brain creature, now on its tenth studio album. This new album continues a very particular sonic research, a very fast path that this musician is taking, releasing one album a year, maintaining the alternative/electronic/industrial bases, but always adding something new in each of his albums.

In this case there are several hints to prog, fusion and more, while in some pieces you can still hear the growl of the post rock and grunge guitars typical of his early works, which were more oriented towards those genres. The only thing that isn’t fully convincing is the voice, used in a strange way, almost as if it were a side element. In fact Jack Brain never sings something truly memorable, the metrics and melodies he uses are quite difficult and anti-commercial, and therefore if we add this factor to the already not simple musical proposal, something really difficult for the listener emerges. occasional.

In short, “Designing Chaos” is an album that probably only wants to please the artist who composed and played it (and also produced it), but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t find many admirers out there, as long as none of them expect a simple album. You need to open your mind to fully discover this artist, but this album is a great representation of independence and personality translated into music.
