Don Gastro – “De Wasted”

An Italian band that offers excellent stoner metal, also influenced by progressive rock, above all for a way of understanding the songs not with the usual verse-chorus-verse-bridge-finale formula, but rather we notice an enormous compositional effort on the part of this young band. The pieces are long and structured, and this element is nothing new in doom/stoner, but in this case we have so many riffs and many changes within the same song, and a voice that with personality knows how to interpret all the musical phases which continually change.

“De Wasted” is a unique product in this sense, in which the terms doom or stoner metal leave the time they find, because here we could simply talk about a rock band that is not content to follow a trend, but rather tries to create it trend! Musical and compositional qualities and notable techniques certainly help Don Gastro to do what they want during long and tortuous pieces, with the result that they never bore the listener, but rather, they entice him to continue listening, because every space of this album is handled with genius and originality.

Album not to be missed for anyone who loves heavy, smoky, experimental, but fundamentally doom rock.
