Barry e i Karamazov – “Vinted dell’anima”
At the heart of “Vinted dell’anima,” the new album from the Italian band Barry e i Karamazov, are distinctive riffs that push without overdoing it, alternative indie rock with exposed muscle and nerve. The guitars work to shape the sound, enhanced by a rough, experienced voice, with that rap edge that at times slips into a lighter flow, thus breaking the rigidity and making everything more dynamic.
Barry e i Karamazov don’t seek easy labels and blend alternative, indie, and rap without too many twists and turns. The point isn’t “what genre it is,” but how it sounds: direct, immediate, without unnecessary frills. And it works precisely because it doesn’t get lost in definitions.
The impact comes even when the album slows down. The more melodic parts aren’t pauses, but shifts in perspective: the tension remains, only it transforms. The rhythms hold everything together with solid and linear, almost hypnotic grooves, leaving room for the vocals to play between tighter interlockings and more airy openings.
Sure, at first listen, some tracks may seem unfinished in their arrangements. But this impression fades with each listen: a general fluidity emerges that holds the entire project together. Some songs, however, raise the bar with more elaborate structures and less immediate solutions.
The heart remains Alternative: riffs that stretch, repeat, and get stuck in your head, supported by a tight rhythm section. When everything aligns, the picture becomes sharp and fluid. “Vinted of the soul,” not perfect, but authentic enough to leave its mark.
