Idiota – “Wish You Wern’t”
Matthew Robinson was writing and playing guitar for most of the early 2000’s based in rural Connecticut. He had been in local punk and indie bands, mostly writing and singing. Matt released two EP’s under the name Ivydrive, Before going to grad school he was working on an electronic indie pop album titled red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet(2008) reached its demo stage but was put on hold for lack of funding and access to equipment. He focused on Painting and getting his MFA in Brooklyn and spent the next decade working in public education. After settling down and painting again he bought his first new computer that could support recording. The first EP and unreleased demos are the outcome of what was learned in between that time and written all at once.
Matt and Mike Rasimas met in Beacon, NY over common taste in music and began the process of refining. Mike studied composition and has a prolific portfolio as songwriter, musician and teacher. At this point others became involved and we are moving forward with new material. Mikes personal project is M.Roosevelt. And has 21 releases on his Bandcamp account.
Idiota, Self-Titled EP was self-released on February 23rd 2024. The record has five songs and tracks about 17 minutes. The sound falls within the indie rock/ Indie Pop category with sonic references to garage revival. The melodies hold ear-worm qualities, the arrangements are pop structured with jangly guitars and prominent vocal melody.
A dynamic trend where technic and body blend together thanks to a good glue made of refined sounds well adapted to the musical context that embellish the listening.
A listening that reveals good technical and compositional skills, and that demonstrates how the band knows how to move with familiarity in their musical environment.
“Wish You Wern’t”, lays the foundations on really spot on metrics and riffs, managing to dose a mass of sounds that give concreteness and a sound mature enough to get noticed and appreciated.
