HOLY SHiRE, we often draw inspiration from mythology, fantasy literature

Six years have passed from the second album “The Legendary Shepherds of the Forest”, and many things have happened in music world and within the band, first a pandemic that has marked a setback for everyone, cancelling live performances and, in
many cases, creative inspiration too. From this journey of reconstruction, even within the band itself, as many members left in the meantime, a new line-up was born and, once set, could write this third work titled “Invincible”. Invincible is the desire to make music, to compose it and play it, to continue the search to get to the heart and mind of the listener, the tireless need to create something new that has the original imprint of the band, but that it bears the fruits of new mixtures and new ideas brought by those who previously were not there. Ten new tracks born from Maxx (drums), Tia (guitar) and Kima (flute), with melodies and lyrics by Aeon (dragon vocals) and Julie (unicorn vocals) and the contribution and arrangements of Ste (guitar) and Leo (bass), which have joined the line-up more recently. The orchestrations on half of the songs were composed and performed by Federico Maffei (Folkstone).

METALMUSIC – Hi and welcome to this interview. Which is your absolute favorite song from your album?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
M9 is definitely one of the key tracks on Invincible. Not only is it musically powerful, but its lyrics dive into the story of Medusa, one of the most compelling female figures in mythology. Her tale of strength, tragedy, and transformation resonates deeply with the themes of the album and our view of the world.

METALMUSIC – How would you describe your sound?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
Our sound is a unique blend of symphonic and power metal, with influences from progressive, nu-metal, and folk music. It’s cinematic, epic, and deeply inspired by the worlds of mythology and fantasy, offering listeners both energy and emotion.

METALMUSIC – What do you write about?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
We often draw inspiration from mythology, fantasy literature—especially the works of J.R.R. Tolkien—and universal human experiences. Tolkien has been a significant influence, and we’ve written over ten songs inspired by his books. Yet, Tolkien isn’t the only one source of inspiration. For example, Invinciblefeatures the song Dagon, inspired by the homonymous novel by Lovecraft, and Waves of Misery, which is based on the “dark fable” The Little Mermaid by Andersen.

METALMUSIC – What do you listen to when you are home?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
Our listening habits are as varied as our influences. We enjoy symphonic metal, classic rock, movie soundtracks, and even traditional folk music. The diversity keeps us inspired and helps us experiment with new ideas in our own music.

METALMUSIC – Your favourite live performance so far?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
One of our best recent performances was at the Brintaal Festival, where we played in front of more than 2000 people.
The energy and enthusiasm from the audience were incredible, and it was an unforgettable experience for all of us to perform for them.

METALMUSIC – Your favourite albums?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
Personally, I’m very fond of classic albums like Century Child by Nightwish and Nightfall in Middle Earthby Blind Guardian. I am truly in love with epic-power metal and symphonic music. As a band, I can say we have a very diverse and composite listening likes, from classic metal, to power-epic metal to nu-metal. And folk music too of course.

METALMUSIC – A musician you would like to meet for a beer?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
It would be amazing to meet Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian. His storytelling ability and unique vocal style is a huge source of inspiration. We’d love to chat with him about music, Tolkien, and everything in between over a beer.

METALMUSIC – What are your plans for the near future?
Ste (Stefano Zuccala – Guitar) –
Our focus right now is on promoting Invincible with live shows and reaching as many new followers as possible. At the same time, we’re already starting to brainstorm ideas for new music. The journey of creation never really ends, and we’re excited for what’s to come.
