Gates Of Eden – “Passage To Babylon”
This is a surprising album by Gates Of Eden, the second of their career. More than a band we can talk about a musical project, totally in the hands of the multi-instrumentalist and music teacher Tregor Russo.
The album offers a good synthesis between gothic, prog and folk metal. By folk metal we above all mean that Middle Eastern flavor that our Tregor seems to fully embrace in this album, recalling what was done by authentic monsters in this style, such as Melechesh and Orphaned Land. Everything moves with mystery and the proposed journey is certainly fascinating. Tregor then uses particular instruments from the tradition of Sicily, or the region of his origin, to give something more particular to the listener.
You will have understood that this is not a record for everyone and the songs are not made for easy approaches and honestly we cannot recommend some episodes or others less. This album offers a kind of continuous journey in the listener’s mind and you can feel a considerable depth and preparation in musical matters. Everything sounds with great class and refinement.
All you have to do is immerse yourself in this sonic journey, closing your eyes and imagining ancient civilizations and warm landscapes rich in esotericism. A unique album of its kind which must however be listened to very carefully. Don’t make the mistake of stopping at the first listen.
