Anthia – “Gaslighter”

Innovative creation through the fusion of an excellent metal, with many other influences in a single scenario that is difficult to label, with the voice as the only human element in the background of an instrumental set up entirely naked and raw. We are talking about the Germans Anthia and their debut album “Gaslighter”.

What comes out is a sharp and energetic metal, which without half measures enters your head like a moving train. While listening you can appreciate full-bodied and intense sounds, well supported by a vocal line that enhances the potential and at the same time the qualities of the band. The course of the disc is varied and original, with sound openings that prove to be a beautiful variant managing to generate a glimmer of light in this almost gloomy atmosphere, but not at all ugly.

An album born in a moment of turmoil. Wars, revolutions, COVID-19 pandemic and personality storm of the mind of Anthia, Herman, and the people around deeply altered lyrics and music.

Gaslighter is a kind of diary that collects intimate and unshared thoughts on events mentioned above.

An overall sound that turns out to be a punch in the stomach and at the same time a godsend because in this kind of death metal scenario, stereotyped and banal proposals are often the order of the day and listen to something anything but banal and taken for granted is always a pleasure.

A synergy proven in more than one circumstance by means of pieces where almost sudden tempo changes stand out and which prove to be an excellent solution to confer dynamics and speed.
The release of “Gaslighter” confirms how much good the band has managed to do with this debut without setting limits and without going behind the commercial current because Anthia play what they want and not what the trade wants.
