Alis – “Eleven”

This Roman singer has all it takes to be very successful. His typically rock voice but which also knows how to caress the soul in very sweet songs is the real starting point on which the excellent success of an album like this “Eleven” is based. Alis is also a composer, although she has entrusted the instrumental parts to other musicians, who she thinks are also the same ones who accompany her in live shows. Ten songs in the true sense of the term.

The first “Letting Go” is a cross between the latest Scorpions and the alternative rock of bands like Paramore. The experiment works perfectly. Excellent choruses, a good groove alternating with almost punk lashes. With the second “Antidote”, opened by acoustic guitars and with a persuasive voice we have another excellent surprise, because the song then explodes into a typical chart-topping rock song. Even better in “Città dolente”, with its distorted and almost garage sound, its melodic verses alternating with choruses full of energy.

Really not bad, the album starts to get going, and apart from a few quieter episodes, Alis’ alternative rock is perfect and recalls the energy of the band like Guano Apes too, and in general it brings the nineties back into vogue. A record that therefore, even in songs like “Blackout” or “Mania”, manages to balance between chart-topping rock and alternative razor-sharpness. A formula that our Alis seems to interpret very well and that we can only recommend.
